JMUN 2014

Each year SDCEE sponsors the Junior Model United Nations convention held at the University of San Diego (read about our involvement here). This year’s event was another resounding success. Awards were given in multiple categories and the annual Pat Pierson Memorial Economics Award was given to Ian Rodney, a 9th grader at Patrick Henry High School. A complete list of award winners can be found here.

The follow is an abridged version of a thank you note from Senior Jake Thomas.

I would like to offer my sincere thanks to the SDCEE and the EconEd Foundation for its long-term support of the San Diego Regional Junior Model United Nations Conference. Without support from this organization, I don’t see how this annual conference would be able to continue.

As my involvement with JMUN wraps up after six wonderful years, I wanted to let you know how much a role JMUN has played in my life. I signed up to participate in JMUN as a seventh grader because it sounded like it would be a fun way to learn about the world. I really didn’t know what I was getting into, but I kept at it, researching my country and committee subtopics. One of my resolutions made it into the packet and I was so excited for the conference.

In high school, I won several awards, and was chosen to speak at the closing ceremony. I knew then that I wanted to continue my involvement with MUN and help other kids gain the confidence needed to speak up.

Being a part of the San Diego Regional JMUN conference has given me a fantastic opportunity to provide leadership and support others, while also learning a great deal about the world and international relations.  I still read the UN Wire and Foreign Policy emails daily.

Thank you for giving kids like me the opportunity to grow and learn about the world.

SDCEE continues to be proud if its involvement with JMUN.
